Wellbutrin?
By
Ask Your Question: I take adderall (10mg a day) and I have side effects of getting upset when I wake up and at the end of the day like door slamming and swaring and just that crapy feeling when the process is done for the day. And I asked about a medicine to counteract those effects on Yahoo Answers and someone said he takes adderall and Wellbutrin to counteract the mood swings. But on the Wellbutrin Web site it says that Wellbutrin is approved for those over 18. Is their a medicine like Wellbutrin that is for a 13 year old that I can talk to my doctor about?

I take Wellbutrin and I think it is a miracle drug. MUCH better than the other SSRI’s I’ve been on. I do know a 15 year old boy on Wellbutrin – it’s related more to weight than anything else, and they can give you a lower does. Talk to your doctor, and good luck!

wellbuterine (zyban) is a common stop smoking aid even the military gives it out to stop smoking among soldiers so it’s probably very safe.
I’d talk to your doctor about it anyways he can prescribe it for you if he thinks it will help

Wellbutrin would probably counteract the side effects of Adderall only if you have also diagnosed with depression — which could be the cause of your mood swings. I’m assuming you are taking Adderall for ADHD?
Wellbutrin has some similarities to Ritalin and other stimulant-type drugs and has also been prescribed for ADHD, although it’s primarily used for depression and smoking cessation. If a doctor prescribed both Wellbutrin and Adderall at the same time, he would be very careful since they have some similar actions in the brain and could theoretically cause even worse side effects if too much is taken.
Wellbutrin has been known to cause seizures, especially in combination with other drugs, and for this reason alone is usually not prescribed to children or adolescents. Also, the seizure rate goes up dramatically when an overdose of even one or two pills is taken, and that’s another reason it’s usually kept from children.
You may want to talk with your doctor about adding a low dose of an SSRI antidepressant to your meds…Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, etc. The SSRIs tend to have more of a calming, soothing effect than Wellbutrin, and can usually be prescribed for people under 18 with strict supervision.
